Cosmic Colliery / Glofa'r Gofod
Cosmic Colliery [welsh translation - Glofa'r Gofod] involved working with communities in the Rhymney Valley in South Wales, to speculate on the possibility of their local abandoned Penallta Colliery becoming an underwater astronaut training centre. Through a series of performance-based activities, I worked with different people and groups surrounding the colliery and through a short film, documented the aspirations and tensions that had arisen in pursuit of the impossible.
Acknowledging as a community, that this will likely never happen, I wanted to find out if there was a collective attitude to be able to achieve something like that.
A year after this project had happened, a radio documentary was produced with Hannah Loy for BBC Wales which features interviews with the people that were part of the project.
