Hefin Jones is a Welsh-born, London-based designer with a participatory design practice. Alongside his work with different people and communities, he’s collaborated with many institutions such as the National Museum of Wales, the Design Museum, Crafts Council, and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
His practice is grounded by a model called participatory speculation. This involves using knowledge generated through research about a context — people, cultures, materials, histories, industries, infrastructure — and then re-configuring this with the relevant people as a means to speculate on alternative possibilities for that context.
Hefin is currently a visiting tutor in the Department for Design at Goldsmiths University of London, Curator of the Young Creatives programme at the Design Museum. He has previously worked at multinational tech companies, third sector public service organisations, and taught at other internationally renowned institutions such as Central Saint Martins and University of Gothenburg. Hefin's work has been exhibited internationally and he was the 2015 Designer in Residence at The Design Museum.
